Project Tokens: Cookie Machine Details for Wedded Bliss
The Ask
Cookie Machine Rental for a wedding reception
A year and a half ago I had a dream of upscaling a vintage quarter machine to dispense cookies.
Did anyone ask me to do this? No. Was there a market for a cookie machine rental? No clue.
But sometimes you just have to believe “If you build it, they will come.” (I mean, Field of Dreams was about cookie machines, right?)
Behind the Scenes
An engaged couple reached out planning their wedding. They told me their theme was wildflowers and the loved my watercolor floral cookies and were interested in having them as part of their cookie table at the reception. I shared with them what I offer and explained next steps if they’d like to move forward.
The response I got was the most exciting curveball, “We want to move forward with renting the Cookie Machine!”
Customized Wax Seal Inspired Stamped Mini Cookies for the Cookie Machine
After a few more conversations and getting a glimpse at the mood board for their big day, we landed on a few upgraded details to ensure the Cookie Machine fit their vision perfectly.
The monogram decal designed specifically for E & J’s wedding
The first upgrade we decided on was for the cookies themselves. Because the cookies in the machine are bite-sized, there’s not a lot of decorating I can do to them. However, I can upgrade the icing from just a solid white, to have a stamped wax seal inspired detail.
My standard wax seal detail is a wildflower which fit the theme. The couple also shared that their wedding invitations included a wax seal that had an embossed leaf on it. So I sourced a similar leaf stamp and we included a mix of wildflower and leaf stamps on the cookies.
Typically when I use a stamp for this size cookie, I paint the embossed design in edible gold. Give that the mood board was full of color, gold wasn’t going to do the trick. So I pulled inspiration from the floral colors and painted the stamped icing orange, periwinkle, pink, and lavender.
With the cookie design set, we then decided to include a personalized decal on the front of the machine.
Since the theme was wildflowers, I put pencil to iPad and started drawing.
The result was a silhouette of wildflowers draped around the couple’s initials “e + j”. A truly custom drawn decal to celebrate their union.
The last upgrade I chose was for the machine itself. I swapped out the coin mechanism to accept tokens. This meant guests would get a full interactive moment without needing to find spare change since the tokens were provided with the rental.
Preparing the Cookie Machine for E & J’s Wedding
The Delivery
With all the cookies packed safely in their capsules and the custom decal on the front of the machine, I loaded everything in the car to deliver to the venue.
This delivery was especially fun because the couple was getting married at the same venue my husband and I did years earlier!
The Results
As I loaded the Cookie Machine into the venue the groomsmen cheered! The Cookie Machine was set up next to the cookie table for all to enjoy.
After the wedding, I pulled the extra cookies out of the machine and left them with the wedding planner to give to the bride and groom.
“That’s the cookie machine I was telling you about...”
