Behind the scenes of Boll & Branch’s buttercup launch
When the team at Boll & Branch reached out about their new Buttercup linen launch, it felt like a natural fit. They were looking for a gift that felt thoughtful, elevated, and aligned with the care behind their products.
Hand-painted buttercup shortbread cookies were a seamless match.
The scope, however, was ambitious: 700 cookies.
It was a big project, and I was fully invested from the start—especially with the vision of a kitchen filled with delicate yellow florals.
Behind the Scenes
Every project begins the same way for me: with paper, paint, and a bit of quiet experimentation. I spent an afternoon refining a few buttercup designs until they felt just right—focusing on the shape, the sense of movement, and how the soft yellow petals would stand out against the white backdrop.

Once the Boll & Branch team gave the green light, it was go time. (They even teased the practice sketches on Instagram)
First things first: butter.

And not just a little… try 52 pounds. Yes, really.
After the baking marathon came the painting marathon. Somewhere around the 200th cookie, I fully entered buttercup autopilot mode. But honestly? There’s something incredibly calming about it—watching rows and rows of cookies slowly turn into a little edible garden.

The Delivery
After a few very full days of baking, painting, and carefully packing every last cookie, I loaded up the car and made the delivery myself to their Oak Brook store.
From there, the Boll & Branch team took the cookies to headquarters and stores across the country—just in time to celebrate the launch.
The Results
The best part? Watching it all come to life online. Seeing tags, stories, and little glimpses of the cookies out in the world never gets old.
The Boll & Branch team loved them, the launch was a hit, and my kitchen returned back to a normal state.
